The Arewa secret to a wholistic life
SOA was founded by Halima, a Northern Nigerian woman whose global upbringing has heavily influenced her perspective on identity and belonging. Growing up in countries like Zimbabwe, India, Japan, Kuwait, and now Australia, Halima often found herself in environments where she was one of the few Black Muslim women. This experience nudged her to stand firmly in her Nigerian heritage and sparked a lifelong fascination with how we present ourselves to the world.
From a young age, Halima noticed that fragrance had a powerful impact on how people perceive each other—it could evoke memories, start conversations, and serve as a subtle yet evocative expression of personal identity. Despite being far from home for much of her life, the comforting smell of traditional Nigerian scents always brought her back to her roots. Fuelled by this deeply personal connection, Halima set out to create a perfume brand that celebrates her culture and extends an invitation to others to explore, connect, and share stories through scent.
Our fragrances are refined, beautiful, and rooted in cultural depth.
We celebrate African heritage unapologetically — not as a trend, but as truth
SOA exists to bring the beauty of Northern Nigeria to the world through safe, inspiring scented products that connect cultures and celebrate values
Our non-toxic products are made with the same care we’d offer to those we love. We also believe scent bridges people, places, and generations.
We partner with artisans and producers in Africa to uplift the communities that shape our work.
SOA embraces the rich traditions of Northern Nigeria—“Arewa” meaning “North” in the Hausa language—while weaving in modern fragrance-making techniques. At its heart, SOA is a platform for cultural dialogue: each scent is curated to capture the essence of Africa’s warmth, diversity, and heritage.
By focusing on healthy, non-toxic, and top-tier ingredients, Scents of Arewa ensures that the fragrances are both safe and enduring. The brand aspires to be a beacon for more African-inspired products that uphold high standards, not just in quality but in authenticity as well.
